Trifles by Susan Glaspell Essay - 569 Words
Trifles by Susan Glaspell In the short play Trifles,â⬠by Susan Glaspell, various questions and issues originate concerning with the bond between women, the difference between male and female, and what life was like in the early nineteen century for women. In addition, the importance and development of symbols are crucial. Throughout the play, Glaspell uses symbols to further and support Minnieââ¬â¢s isolation and lack of happiness in her life. Although the answers may be evident there is room for guesswork and doubt. The play is cleverly written because we are never introduced to Mr. and Mrs. Wright, to whom the entire dialogue and mystery is surrounding. This lack of the main characters makes it hard to know what really went on andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The play is filled with symbols, especially the broken cage and the dead bird, which could have represented Minnie Wright herself, a woman whose zest for life had been squeezed out of her by her tyrant of a husband. The women discuss Minnie ââ¬â¢s life. Mrs. Hale remembered Minnie Wright as a happy, beautiful, gifted young girl before the years of toil and mistreatment by John Wright had turned her into a sad, lonely and perhaps, battered woman (1624). Mrs. Hale was sympathetic because she also was a farm wife but at least, she had her children to keep her company. Mrs. Hale felt guilty that she hadnââ¬â¢t taken the time to visit Minnie Wright but she excused herself saying that their was so much work to do on the farm and the Wright place never looked cheerful. Moreover, we must notice that neighbors were few and far away from each other. Houses were miles apart separated by farmland and rough country; therefore visiting was a daylong trip. In addition, we can presume that the party telephone was a threat to Minnieââ¬â¢s husband growing sense of possession of his wife. He refused by saying that ââ¬Å" folks talked too much anyway, and all he wanted was peace and quietâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Minnie was a caged bird living a very lonely life, with no children, no family except for her husband, and no friends. This strategy was effective to me to develop the strategy in an organization to get competitive benefits in long-term. This research has also developed my understanding regarding SERVQUAL dimension which is used to measure the level of service quality. This dimension measures the quality on the basis of different factors named empathy, assurance, responsiveness, tangibles, and reliability (Orel and Kara, 2014). Therefore, it enables me to measure the level of service quality within an organization. During this research, I have also observed that image of the store relies on the entire perception of customers towards the store. Moreover, It is analyzed that can provide a positive experience to customers to build the distinct image in their mind towards the store. In this way, I have learned that psychological features represent the belief of the shopper that can be steadily changed by functional level features of the store. Moreover, the functional level of features entails the location, convenience of the store, and layout of the store (Oliver, 2014). These broader concepts are beneficial to me develop a distinct image in the customers mind towards their products and services. From this research, I have learned that consumer behavior is the integration of obtaining the consumers and disposing of the products with utilization as well as delivering services. I have gained an understanding that consumer behavior is the mixture of mental, physical and emotional practices by which people select, purchase, use and dispose of the products and services which can satisfy their desires and needs (Kallweit, et. al., 2014). This concept is effective for me to develop effective strategies due to having depth understanding consumer behavior, as a result, it would enhance my professional growth. During this research, I have also pointed that there are certain non-frequent and frequent shoppers for the existing departmental stores. These consumers can be younger and educated as well as have relatively high level of income. Hence, now I am able to become a good marketing manager within an organization. Moreover, I have analyzed that there are different elements of service quality that has recognized by the customer to assess the effectiveness of value proposition. I have also focused on the research methodology part which was beneficial to assess the information about the perceived quality and its influence on customer choices in retail in a systematic manner. I have also created knowledge about the importance of research question within a research. I have analyzed that research question is used to provide a guiding standard for assessing the appropriate relevant literature as compared to engaging in confusion due to diversity aspects associated with the perception of service quality and preferences of customers (Floyd, et. al., 2014). From the research, I have gained an understanding that process of research design is implemented for building the research methodology. This is used to facilitate the methodological design for resolving the research issue. Consequently, it would be beneficial to develop effective research methodology about the further research issue in future. Under this research, I have pointed that there are different elements that should be included in research methodology named sampling, data collection, research activity, and data analysis (Das, 2014). This would be beneficial to develop the effective research design regarding research issue in future, as a result, it would enhance my professional career. I have also developed my knowledge about different techniques of sampling named probability and non-probability techniques. In this way, I have learned that probability sampling is a process when each participant of the population has an equal opportunity of being selected in the survey thorough questionnaire. Along with this, I have observed that non-probability sampling is depending on the selection of respondent as per the specific precedent (Flanagin, et. al., 2014). These sampling methods were beneficial to enhance my research skills as I am competent to select the participants for getting the information about research issue. From this research, I have built my knowledge regarding data collection method. In this way, I have learned that there are two methods of gathering information named primary and secondary. There are different sources is used to gather the information through these methods. For example, the survey is used to collect the fresh information whereas secondary data can be gathered through different academic journals, academic publication, textbook and online and offline sources. I have also pointed that data analysis is used after collecting the data. In this way, statistical data is used to present the information through different charts, graph, and column diagram. In the last, I have learned that Gantt chart is used to estimate the time schedule for completing the research (Cantallops and Salvi, 2014). Was The Man We Know As Shakespeare Really The Author Of Essays
Was the man we know as Shakespeare really the author of the "Shakespearean Works"? We know little about the man called Shakespeare, Did he really write the plays, or is he just a man that got confused within history? (Sobran 44) There is not even a correct spelling of this mans name, Some of the spellings include Shakspere, Shakespeare, And Shaxpere. Shakespeare, Is it the man, Or is it another? (Hayes 1D) Shakespeare is both fact and fiction, he was no concern until nearly two hundred years after he perished, and there is still no definite or probably will there ever be a conclusion to this mystery. (Sobran 44) There is another man that can be attributed with the works of "Shakespeare", His name is Edward DeVere, the 17th Earl of Oxford. (Bethell 47) The man known as Shakespeare does not fit perfectly into the necessary criteria to determine the author of these works. Thomas Looney invented a series of criteria that had to be filled, in order to be a possible candidate for the authorship of the Shakespearean works. To have all the knowledge that is portrayed in the works, the author must have accomplished many things. These including a superior education, from what we know of "Shakespeare", this was not a possibility.(Bethell 46) We do not even know if Shakespeare has ever written anything in his life, Nor do we know that he was paid for writing these works. The man Shakespeare does not even make a claim that he is the author.(Bethell 50) He may not have been able to write the simplest thing of all, His own name.(Hayes 1D) Its not how little we know about Shakespeare that causes confusion and difficulty, Its the things that we do know about this man that cause the confusion and difficulty. We know Shakespears father, a glover, could not write. When he signed documents, he simply made an "X", This is why it is beleived that Shakespeare could not write also, Because he probably did not attend school therefore his education was passed down from his father. (Bethell 48) We do know much more about the man Edward DeVere. We know that because deVere was a nobleman, he could not have his name written upon his writings because he would be considered of a lower class. The plays contain a sense of hate towards some of the noblemen of that time period, which also point the authorship towards DeVere. (Hayes 1D) When DeVere was a young man, he spent a lot of time in Italy and Europe, This could explain the great detail used in the Shakespearean plays of Venice, and other European locations.(Sobran 45) The sonnets have never been able to fit into Shakespears life, On the other hand they fit into DeVere's life well. (Sobran 45) There are facts that lean both ways in this age old mystery of authorship, Though the Strafordian man does not fit into the story very well, He may have some advantages that the Oxfordian man may not. DeVere on the other hand, has mostly every fact pointing towards him as the valid author for the "Shakespearean" works, From his education, to his experiences, to his travel. The Oxfordian seems to come out on top. Shakespeare: Stratforidan, or DeVere?

Death Be Not Proud Quotes
'Death Be Not Proud' Quotes Death Be Not Proud is a 1949 memoir written by American journalist John Gunther, about his son Johnny, who was a Harvard-bound teenager when he was diagnosed with cancer. He fought bravely to try to help doctors find a cure for his ailment, but died at age 17. The books title comes from a sonnet by metaphysical poet John Donne: Death, be not proud, though some have called theeMighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;For those whom thou thinkst thou dost overthrowDie not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,And soonest our best men with thee do go,Rest of their bones, and souls delivery.Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,And poppy or charms can make us sleep as wellAnd better than thy stroke; why swellst thou then? One short sleep past, we wake eternallyAnd death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die. Here are some quotes and questions for consideration from John Gunthers Death Be Not Proud. God is whats good in me. Johnny Gunther said this at the age of 6, and it shows that even as a small child, he had a desire to do something meaningful and good for the world. Why do you think his father chose to include this in the novel? Does it give us a better understanding of who Johnny is and the person he might have grown up to become? I have so much to do! And theres so little time! Rather than wallow in self-pity, this is Johnnys reaction after the first exam shows the tumor that has been giving him neck pain. He says it to his mother Frances, and it seems to suggest that he knew his diagnosis was terminal. What do you think Johnny meant by saying he had so much to do? A primitive to-the-death struggle of reason against violence, reason against disruption, reason against brute unthinking forcethis was what went on in Johnnys head. What he was fighting against was the ruthless assault of chaos. What he was fighting for, as it were, the life of the human mind. His father realizes that Johnnys battle is not just his own, but that hes seeking answers that will benefit others who may suffer the same illness. But even as he tries to think of a solution, the brain tumor is affecting Johnnys mind and his memory. Oh how tired I feel. What a gut-punch for Johnnys father to read this entry in the young mans diary. Johnny often tried to shield his parents from the depths of his suffering, and even this only touches on a fraction of what he must have been going through at the time. Did this make you think perhaps the treatments Johnny was enduring were not worth the pain he was enduring? Why or why not? Scientists will save us all. Taken out of context, this could be read as an ironic or angry statement about medicines failure to save Johnny from the effects of the brain tumor, but its actually a statement from Johnny himself, written in a final letter to his mother. He feels confident that his battle will not be in vain, and that even if hes not cured, the treatments the doctors tried for him will prompt further study. My grief, I find, is not desolation or rebellion at universal law or deity. I find grief to be much simpler and sadder... All the things he loved tear at my heart because he is no longer here on earth to enjoy them. All the things he loved! The devastating reaction of Johnnys mother Frances as she comes to terms with his death. Do you think this is a feeling commonly shared among the bereaved? How much more acute do you think this feeling is for bereaved parents? These quotes are just one part of our study guide on John Gunthers Death Be Not Proud. Extra points Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Extra points - Essay Example Generally typical unlawful immigrant household has only a 10th grade education. Consequently non-immigrants have low paying jobs hence pay less tax. On the other hand most house hold heads of lawful immigrants are well educated. Lawful immigrants headed by well-educated household tend to pay higher taxes that exceed the direct benefits they receive from the government. According to this report, lawful immigrants with college education heads generates a fiscal surplus of approximately$29250 which the government uses to finance the benefits of unlawful immigrants with less education who consequently contribute less taxes leaving the government with huge fiscal deficit. The benefits they receive exceed the taxes they pay to the government. Unlawful migrants unlike lawful migrants do not have access to social security, Medicare and other tested welfare services. However their children benefit from highly subsidized public education, medical benefits and welfare services offered by the go vernment. Unlawful immigrant household heads also benefit from the use of sewers, roads, parks, police, fire and state security. These available resources get overburdened due to congestion effects hence leading to decline of quality of services to be offered to lawful migrants and non-immigrants. Itââ¬â¢s assumed by analysts that nearly half of the unlawful immigrants do not pay income or FICA taxes because most of them work ââ¬Å"off the booksâ⬠. In 2010, the Pew Hispanic Centre estimated children residing in US with unlawful parents to be 5.5 million. Out of this, 4.5 million were born in the US while the remaining 1 million migrated with their parents to the US. They therefore qualify to be legal citizens and are entitled to state welfare and subsidized education. In average, unlawful immigrants have about 3.7 percent of persons in their households as compared to non-immigrant who have 2.7 persons in their households. This indicates that households of unlawful immigrant s are larger than the household of non-immigrants. How has the relative education of unlawful immigrant households changed over time, and how does it compare to the education level of lawful immigrant and non-immigrant households? Data from the NELS indicate that the children of unlawful immigrantââ¬â¢s households will improve more than the educational levels of their parents. However 18 percent of these children are likely to drop out of school without even a high school degree while about 13 percent are likely to graduate with a college degree. The rest will either attain high qualification or some college training school. College graduates with degrees need to be improved to 30 percent to match with the levels of lawful immigrants and non-immigrants. In assessing the distribution of government benefits and costs, the study uses 6 categories of benefits/expenditures. Briefly describe what is in each category Government benefits and services are distributed into six categories a s follows: Direct benefits - : This involves the cost of services offered to the citizens or the direct cash transfer. They include the costs of Medicare services, unemployment insurance, workers compensation and social security.
